Gankutsuou (巌窟王, Gankutsuō?) is a novel series that lasts three volumes and ran from December 2004 to May of 2005. It was adapted directly from the anime and has many differences.
It was written by Shuichi Kouyama, the screenwriter for the anime and the cover was illustrated by Hidenori Matsubara.

Albert de Morcerf crosses paths with the mysterious Count of Monte Cristo, awed by his sheer aura, but too ingrained within his innocent nature that the Count has other plans. Why does the Count know the secrets of the rich as if he wishes to disclose them for the world to see?
